Alex - arranger and story-teller

We all smile when we think about Alex. He brings so much experience to our group along with it a plethora of hilarious stories. Don't worry, he'll share a few of those with you when you come to our performance.

Not only is he an awesome tuba player, he is our arranger. His arrangements are so good, we won't let him do them for anyone else!

Alex plays tuba in Touch of Brass in addition to an active career as a freelance musician in the DFW area.

He has degrees in music education and music performance and he studied with the legendary Arnold Jacobs, former tubist with the Chicago Symphony.

Mr. Cauthen has been fulltime instructor of tuba and euphonium at Louisiana Tech University and at the University of North Texas. Additionally, he has taught tuba and euphonium at TCU. Currently he is instructor of tuba and euphonium at Brookhaven Community College.

For nearly twenty years, he has been principal tuba with the Dallas Wind Symphony appearing on all fourteen of their released albums. He has also appreared with the Florida Wind Band and the Brass Band of Central Florida. Additionally, he is a frequent arranger for brass.

Lastly, he is a founding 'instigator' of the Dallas Wind Symphony Tuba Quartet.
